As the number of ECUs and other software-driven components embedded in vehicles increases, so does the amount of time and effort required to keep them constantly up-to-date. Many owners of cars, for example, are eligible for software updates throughout their warranty period, with dealerships handling flashing of new and improved software, and charging the car manufacturer accordingly. Given the fact that the amount of time spent by dealerships on these services is expected to grow 50% between 2015 and 2019, dealership-applied software updates can only be expected to become an ever-growing financial burden for the car manufacturer.
The solution we’re exploring as a means of eliminating this burden involves implementation of HARMAN’s industry-leading and 100% field-proven Smart Delta OTA (Over-the-Air) update solution, which has successfully been serving on board more than 15 million cars, trucks and heavy machines to date.
