Enterprises have moved the needle from being a traditional Systems of Records based organization to a Systems of Engagement based operations where devices and infrastructure now have the autonomous ability to make smarter decisions, thus reducing overall costs. Internet of Things is an opportunity for businesses to transform the way they function. With connected technologies large enterprises are able to tap into the potential of Machine Learning technologies to analyze historical and real-time data that help them predict faults in machines and machine parts, reducing breakdowns and costs that could be incurred as a result of system & machine failure.
Internet of Things closely aligns with the vision that several of the leading industries in today's world share; a sustainable tomorrow. Building are incorporating sensors and integrating to gateway platforms that allow them to save energy with smart lighting and water management solutions. Smart building also provide a macro perspective into real-time occupancy tracking as well as insights that delve into smarter means of building asset utilization. Enabling building managers with the ability to remotely track, control and monitor the functioning of the building is critical is being able to maintain environmental friendly and sustainable protocols.
However, true north in realizing the full potential of IoT lies in being able to minimize the need for human intervention and automate repairs, diagnosis and updates. Over-the-air (OTA) is a key component in the larger IoT game, whereby service providers are able to mitigate the need to physically inspect or update a product, rather enable it with the functionality that saves time and costs, as long as the device is connected to a high speed internet of wi-fi connection.
